Topological optimization

The optimization and its role in the digital modeling :

The gain in mass to limit the material cost and so the component weight (consumption, carbon dioxide emission decrease),

Determine the component minimal size (perfect design) to limit its dimensions while replacing the specifications goals (functional role, and mechanical properties holding).

The optimization is an additional point to the finite elements classic simulation : it must permit to reduce the CAD repetition – calculations to focus more quickly on the optimal solution.

It is also useful for the Eco-conception which permits obtaining a similar design with the series or quite simply a design while respecting the specifications. So,the optimization can be used at the start of the project.

The topology optimization consists in determining an ideal piece form starting from a volume. To describe areas with optimization or not. The optimization algorithm aims for minimizing the strain energy while respecting a constraint for the loading. The result is an optimal distribution of the elements in each initial volume.
