Uncertainty quantification

The quantification of uncertainties combines a set of models coming from probability theory and from associated statistical tools which permit their construction using observable data.

The probabilistic models commonly used by PHIMECA Engineering are :

  • the random variables which permit to describe the probability distribution of the values taken for a single parameter (ex : the yield point of a steel) ;
  • the multivariate random variable which permits to describe the probability distribution of the values taken by a group of parameters taking into account possible correlations (ex: the wind speeds and direction for a typical site);

  • the random processes which permit to define probability distributions on time and space functions (ex : geometric imperfection field).
